Hey guys! I just wanted to stop in on the blog and write a quick review of my time spent on the Raleigh Trolley Pub this past weekend. The Trolley Pub is a pedal-powered, pub-crawling trolley powered by you and your fellow peddlers. I first discovered the Trolley Pub when I was abroad in London. I thought it was such a cool concept that when I returned to the states I even asked my parents if they would invest in me starting a company to run my own in Wilmington. After doing some research, there was one already in the works there. Oh well! I absolutely enjoy riding the pubs way more than running one.
Last week we celebrated our friends birthday with a large group of friends and headed over to the Raleigh Trolley Pub. The trolley holds 14 people so make sure you call ahead to reserve a time and enough space for your party!
When you arrive their office, staff members will greet you and give you a run down on the rules and quick forms you need to fill out. You can bring your own beer, wine, or sparkling seltzers, but if you are crunched on time like we were, they have a cooler with a variety of options to choose from. They will even provide a cooler and ice for you free of charge.
We rented our trolley for 2 hours from 4pm -6pm – these were prime time hours and I highly recommend this time slot if you can get it! I would recommend (for the 2 hour ride) only bringing 3 or 4 beers. Depending on the occasion or duration of your rental, you may want to bring more. Even though your pedaling at about 4 mph, you will arrive at the bars you choose sooner than expected. You don’t want to have to chug your beer every time you get there (or maybe you do) or let it sit in the trolley and get warm while your at the bar. Again I drank about three White Claws and that was plenty. You’ll save some money and can sip on some better cocktails inside.
Our driver Shane was awesome. He gave us a quick rundown of the rules and what not to do. Hint: do not step off the trolley with your drink in hand or else you could get arrested! Shane slapped on a sweet sound track and directed us towards our first bar. We chose to visit Dram & Draught and The Raleigh Times on our trip. With each stop averaging 30 minutes, we only had time to hit two bars. We had one girl in our group set a timer on her phone so we could be on time getting back to the trolley.
We had a blast laughing, singing, and drinking on the trolley pub. When we finished up we headed back to the office which is located right across from Boxcar Bar + Arcade, so if you don’t have the chance to get in three bars, just stop in there afterwards for a drink or grab yourself some barbecue at The Pit.
Once again thank you Shane (be sure to request him) and to the Raleigh Trolley Pub for the experience. I’d highly suggest renting the trolley for a big celebration with friends or just for a fun date night. You’ll never be disappointed by the combination of music, passerbyers who cheer you on, and fun staff/customers who all make Trolley Pub a unique and exciting adventure!
